About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Nebbiolo is grown in vineyards in the Barolo area, at 300 m above sea level on clay soils. The reported yield is 60 hL.
Vinification
The grapes are generally harvested in mid-October. Maceration lasts 4–5 days, followed by fermentation for 10–12 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18–20 months in small oak barrels.
Vintage notes
In 2007, Piedmont experienced one of its warmest and mildest winters in 50 years, followed by an equally warm spring. The grapes ripened three weeks earlier than usual. A lack of rain reduced yields by 20% compared with 2006, while summer rainfall aided ripening. The harvest took place in late September, making it one of the earliest of the preceding 30 years.
Label / history
The winery’s history dates to 1920. It is based at the historic Monfalletto estate, inherited by the Montezemolo family from the Falletti family. Grapes were grown and wine was made at the family’s Castiglione Falletto castle during the Middle Ages. The estate now owns 26 ha of vineyards in the Langa area.
