About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in Chianti, Tuscany’s historic wine region between Florence and Siena. They face south and have clay-limestone soils. The continental climate brings mild winters and hot, dry summers. Marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures promote slow ripening, phenolic maturity and the retention of natural acidity.
Vinification
The grapes are usually harvested at optimal ripeness in the second half of September. They undergo 8–10 days of maceration, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28–29 °C.
Ageing
The wine remains in stainless-steel tanks until May of the year after the harvest.
Tasting profile
Refined and layered.
Label / history
Sangiovese has been cultivated in Tuscany for centuries, with its history traced to Ancient Greek and Roman times. Its name derives from the Latin Sanguis Jovis, meaning “the blood of Jupiter.”
