About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Fasét lies in the commune of Barbaresco at 260 metres above sea level. The 0.97-hectare holding comprises cadastral parcels 550p and 552p on map sheet IV. Parcel 550p was planted partly in 1970 and partly in 1992; parcel 552p was established in stages in 1970, 1992 and 1997. The slope faces east–southeast, and its white soil has a pronounced limestone-and-clay composition.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

For the 2009 vintage, the grapes were harvested by hand on 29 September. Maceration lasted 25 days in stainless-steel vessels, with regular wetting of the cap and manual punch-downs. After alcoholic fermentation, the traditional steccatura technique kept the cap submerged to prolong extraction from the skins.

Ageing

The wine matured for 20 months in large Slavonian oak casks and then spent 2 months in stainless steel. It subsequently aged for 26 months in bottles stored horizontally before release in September 2013.

Bottling took place on 7 July 2011 without filtration or fining, under lot L11-08.

Technical data

The 2009 has 14.5% alcohol, total acidity of 5.6 g/L and a pH of 3.39. Production amounted to 2,670 Albeisa bottles of 0.75 L.

Tasting profile

Garnet red with light orange reflections. The intense, fragrant nose combines raspberry, violet and liquorice with a note of cherry juice. The palate has pleasing structure and persistence, supported by measured tannins and freshness.

Vintage notes

The 2009 growing season began with a winter of abundant snowfall, building useful water reserves ahead of a largely dry summer. Good conditions in September and October supported the harvest of both early- and late-ripening varieties.
