About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the area around Zagarolo in Lazio, with vineyards at about 330 metres above sea level. The Mediterranean climate has hot summers and good air circulation, which helps the grapes ripen while keeping a balance of ripe fruit and freshness. The soils are volcanic tuff, which brings minerality and structure.
Grapes
Montepulciano gives body, richness, texture and dark-fruit notes. Cesanese, a native variety of Lazio, adds freshness, spice and a lively, more aromatic character.
Vinification
After harvest the grapes go through an extended warm maceration on the skins. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature in steel vats. The long skin contact gives deep colour, expressive structure and soft, ripe tannins.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for seven months in steel tanks, which makes the texture rounder and more harmonious.
Tasting profile
Rich, warm and expressive, with juicy fruit, soft tannins and a gentle touch of spice.
Serving and pairing
Suited to autumn and winter. It goes with grilled meat dishes and aged cheeses.
