About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Goleto is made from Greco grown in selected vineyards covering 2.5 hectares in San Paolo, within the commune of Tufo. The parcels lie in the Nassano, Laura and Cicogna districts near the sulfur mines, at 300–400 metres above sea level, with south and south-east exposures. The soil is clay compacted with calcareous gravel. The vines are 25–35 years old, and the vineyards date from 1988.
The vineyards preserve a mixture of historic training systems. The wine page describes them as being cultivated mostly with the traditional radial system, while the 2022 technical information identifies part espalier and part Guyot training.
Grapes
Greco. The stated yield is 50%.
Vinification
For the 2022 vintage, the grapes were picked by hand on 11 October and placed in 15 kg crates. They were refrigerated to reduce their temperature to approximately 13°C, then gently pressed. The must was transferred to stainless-steel tanks for low-temperature settling and subsequently racked into another tank to begin alcoholic fermentation. After the first phase of fermentation, it was moved into barriques and amphorae. Once alcoholic fermentation was complete, the wine was racked to separate it from the lees.
Ageing
The wine returned to the same barriques and amphorae for 8–10 months before bottling, followed by a further 12 months in bottle.

Tasting profile
The 2022 is marked by freshness, a pure mineral expression and depth, combining apparent simplicity with elegance. The wine is conceived to express the richness of Irpinia and develop over time.
Vintage notes
Winter 2021–2022 was mild and dry, with temperatures remaining 2–3°C above the seasonal average until late March or April. Cooler spring air and rainfall concentrated into a few days slowed the resumption of vegetative growth; budbreak generally occurred between late March and early April.
From 5 August and through most of the month, thunderstorms brought relief from heat and water stress and increased the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. Occasional wind, hail and intense rainfall caused only limited damage. Veraison and ripening proceeded on a normal schedule. Despite summer heat stress and denser-than-usual clusters, the harvested white grapes retained freshness, flavour and an appealing aromatic profile.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from the twelfth-century Goleto Abbey, founded by Saint William and still regarded as a symbol of Irpinia. Its label evokes the abbey’s central portal.
