Gianfranco Alessandria

History

Giuseppe and Vittorina

The family story begins with Gianfranco Alessandria's parents, Giuseppe and Vittorina. From a young age they worked their own land, then about 4 ha, divided between vines, hazelnuts and fruit. The family's present wine activity is presented as a continuation of that land work and of the sacrifices made by Giuseppe and Vittorina.

1986 and Gianfranco's direction

In 1986, after the death of his father, Gianfranco began shaping the estate's modern path. His mother first supported him, and later his wife Bruna joined him. Exchange of ideas among local winegrowers brought greater knowledge of the area and its wines. Better vineyard skills and the introduction of technology in the cellar allowed production to expand.

Vittoria and Marta

Gianfranco transmitted his curiosity and passion to his daughters Vittoria and Marta. The two sisters now continue the family journey through land and wine with the support of their parents, treating each vintage as a new experience and source of satisfaction.

Terroir

The estate works in the hills of Monforte d'Alba. Its vineyards are located in the Bussia San Giovanni MGA, with about 7 ha in production. The site names the autochthonous varieties Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. No detailed altitude, exposition, soil profile, slope or climate data is published on the pages that were readable during this run.

Controlled temperaturesShort to medium vinifications are carried out at controlled temperatures
Small oak barrelsAgeing is carried out in small oak barrels

Vineyard work is presented as the foundation of wine quality. The estate works mainly by hand in the vineyard, keeping each plant healthy. Careful grape selection and manual harvest bring only high-quality bunches to the cellar. The farming approach is described as sensible agriculture, respecting people, the territory and the wines. No organic, biodynamic or other certification is named.

Winemaking is described as short to medium in duration and carried out at controlled temperatures to obtain fine wines while preserving their character. Grapes are selected before arriving in the cellar. Ageing is carried out in small oak barrels. Cellar technology was introduced during Gianfranco's development of the estate and contributed to expanded production.

Philosophy

The guiding idea is that wine is made first in the vineyard. The estate combines tradition and innovation, applying practical judgement in vineyard and cellar work. Quality is pursued through grape selection, manual work, natural-principle processing, respect for the timing required by the wines, and the aim of producing wines that express the identity of Monforte d'Alba with complexity, freshness, elegance and longevity.
