History
Il Moralizzatore was founded in 2010 by two friends, Andrea and Enrico. Andrea holds a degree in pharmacology and works in business, while Enrico earned a degree in veterinary medicine and treated horses before gradually becoming interested in grape growing and winemaking. They shared a strong desire to make natural, biodynamic wines, and their dream began to take shape when they rented three hectares of vineyards, part in Mason Vicentino and part in Fara Vicentino.
Terroir
The winery is located in the province of Padua, among the slopes of the Vicenza hills. The rented vineyards lie in two locations: Mason Vicentino, where Cabernet Sauvignon is grown, and Fara Vicentino, planted with Merlot, Pinot Noir and several local grape varieties, including Vespaiola and Gropello. Both vineyards have soils containing volcanic basalt rock.
Winemaking
No chemical pesticides or herbicides are used in the vineyards. Andrea and Enrico work with what nature provides, using perennial grasses and green manure to support the vineyard ecosystem and improve soil fertility. The vineyard's insect life is considered an essential part of its microbiological processes and soil fertility.
In the cellar, the owners of Il Moralizzatore intervene as little as possible, aiming to preserve what comes from the vineyard and let the character of the terroir show through.
Philosophy
The founders share a strong desire to make natural, biodynamic wines. They hold that the vineyard's insect life is an essential part of its microbiological processes and soil fertility, and that in the cellar one should intervene as little as possible, preserving what comes from the vineyard and letting the character of the terroir show through.
