Label / history
Sassello was created in 1985, one year after Rudy Cosimi’s first participation in Vinitaly. Conceived along the lines of the French cru system, it was presented as a selected Brunello di Montalcino and released at twice the price of the estate’s standard wine. It marked Cosimi’s first personal contribution to the family winery, which his father Roberto had established at Il Poggiolo after purchasing the property in 1971.
The estate describes Sassello as the first cru of Brunello di Montalcino. Its creation followed the family’s inaugural Brunello: 4,000 bottles from the 1975 vintage, produced in 1980.
