About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Starderi lies in Neive (Cn). The 11.1-acre vineyard sits at 230 m above sea level, faces south-west and has blue-tinted calcareous marl soils containing a small proportion of clay. The vines average 55 years of age.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
For the 2022 vintage, maceration and alcoholic fermentation took place in temperature-controlled vats for approximately 15 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak barrels, 20% new and the remainder second-use.
Ageing
The 2022 aged for 18 months in the same combination of new and second-use French oak, followed by approximately six months in bottle. The general production description specifies at least nine months in barrel before bottle refinement.
A Riserva Starderi is selected from the best grapes and aged for at least 10 years. Approximately 400 magnums are produced each year.
Technical data
The 2022 has 14.5% alcohol and total acidity of 4.8 g/L. It is available in 750 ml and magnum formats. Average production of the standard wine is 7,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
The 2022 is pale ruby red. Strawberry, rose petal and dark chocolate shape the bouquet. The palate is fresh and elegant, with aromatic herbs and white pepper extending through a persistent finish. Its tannins are soft but clearly defined. More broadly, Starderi balances mature tannin and acidity within a strong, solid structure; delicate plum and ripe-fruit aromas make it approachable in youth while bottle age develops its full potential.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–17 °C in a Burgundy glass.
