About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Valeirano is a 6.2-acre vineyard in Treiso (Cn), situated at 380 m above sea level with a south-western exposure. Its sandy, clay-like limestone marl is of marine origin. The vines average 55 years of age.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

For the 2022 vintage, maceration and alcoholic fermentation took place in temperature-controlled vats for approximately 15 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak barrels, 25% new and the remainder second-use.

Ageing

The 2022 aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with 25% new oak and the balance second-use, followed by approximately six months in bottle. The general production description gives at least nine months in oak and describes a 20% new-oak share.

A Riserva Valeirano is selected from the best grapes and aged for at least 10 years. Approximately 300 magnums are produced annually.

Technical data

The 2022 has 14.5% alcohol and total acidity of 5.1 g/L. Available formats are 750 ml and magnum. Average production of the standard wine is 7,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

The 2022 is light ruby red. Wild cherry, lavender, chalk and white truffle define the bouquet. The palate is fresh and smooth, combining floral detail with a mineral undertone. Silky, elegant tannins lead to a broad, persistent finish. The broader profile highlights marked minerality, substantial structure, recurring tea-leaf and balsamic notes, an intense finish and fine tannins.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–17 °C in a Burgundy glass.

Vintage notes

The 2022 used 25% new French oak and second-use barrels for the remainder, followed by 18 months of ageing and approximately six months in bottle.
