About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Marenca is the winery’s emblematic cru: a pronounced, particularly steep basin covering 2 hectares in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba. This site gives the wine depth and structure. The vineyard lies at 350 metres above sea level, faces south and south-west, and has limestone-clay soil. The vines were planted in 1990, and production is 5,000–5,500 kg per hectare.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Vinification takes place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperature for approximately 18–20 days.

Ageing

Ageing lasts 24 months. The wine spends its first year in 500-litre French oak tonneaux and its second year in large 25 hl Slavonian oak casks.

Technical data

Approximately 9,000 bottles are produced.

Tasting profile

Intense garnet red. The nose combines freshness with considerable aromatic complexity, moving from wild berries to vanilla, chocolate and aromatic herbs. The palate is vigorous and rich in extract, with energetic yet pleasant tannins softened by ageing in wood. Concentrated, powerful and intriguing, it has pronounced structure and a long life.
