About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Campolongo di Torbe is a single-vineyard Amarone from the historic vineyard of the same name in Valpolicella. The site has been recognised for the quality of its grapes since the 12th century. Masi pioneered the Italian concept of cru, or wine from an individual vineyard, during the 1950s; its historic Amarone and Recioto crus are intended to express the distinct terroirs of Valpolicella.
Grapes
Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.
Vinification
The grapes dry naturally in traditional drying lofts through the cold winter months before vinification.
Technical data
Alcohol: 16% vol. Formats are 750 ml, 1,500 ml and 3,000 ml. The wine is made in limited quantities and only in the best years. Ageing potential is 35–40 years.
Tasting profile
Opaque ruby red. The intense, complex nose evokes baked fruit and cinnamon. The palate is rich, warm and rounded, combining ripe sweet cherry and morello cherry with baked plum and bitter almond. Some vintages display a gentle vein of sweetness.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Pair with red-meat dishes, duck with orange, goulash, grilled meat or vegetables, and flavoursome or piquant cheeses such as Parmigiano and Pecorino. Vintages with a sweeter impression work especially well with Gorgonzola.
Label / history
Campolongo di Torbe belongs to Cantina Privata Boscaini, the Boscaini family's collection of fine wines, historic crus and notable Amarone vintages.
