About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Riserva Costasera is a special selection of Costasera from Valpolicella Classica.
Grapes
Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Molinara. Oseleta is an old native Veronese variety rediscovered and replanted in Valpolicella by Masi during the 1980s. Its small, compact bunches and high levels of polyphenols and tannins contribute colour, concentration, structure and complexity.
Vinification
The grapes undergo an extended period of further ripening and drying on bamboo racks. Oseleta is also dried for this Riserva, adding woodland-berry and sweet-spice aromas together with fine, persistent tannins.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least three years in casks made from selected fine woods.
Technical data
Alcohol: 15.5% vol. Formats are 750 ml and 1,500 ml, plus 3,000 ml for five-star vintages only. Ageing potential is 30–35 years.
Tasting profile
An impenetrable dark red. The intense nose combines overripe red fruit, cinnamon and vanilla. Warm and enveloping on the palate, with cooked fruit, sweet spices and clove, followed by a long, dry finish. Oseleta reinforces the aromatic complexity, structure, colour and concentration and brings fine, persistent tannins.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Pair with structured first courses such as risotto all'Amarone, spicy North African or Asian fish and vegetable dishes, duck breast, venison fillet and traditional braised meats. Mature Parmigiano or Pecorino makes a suitable after-dinner accompaniment.
Label / history
Riserva Costasera is conceived as a special selection of Costasera, with longer grape drying, the addition of Oseleta and extended maturation.
