About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Mazzano comes from the historic single vineyard of the same name, whose suitability for high-quality grapes has been recognised since the 12th century. It belongs to Cantina Privata Boscaini, a collection made in limited quantities and only in the finest vintages. Masi was among the Italian pioneers of the cru concept in the 1950s, identifying wines with individual vineyards and their distinctive Valpolicella terroirs.
Grapes
Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.
Vinification
The grapes undergo natural appassimento in traditional drying lofts during the cold winter months.
Technical data
Alcohol: 16% vol. Available formats: 750 ml, 1,500 ml and 3,000 ml. Cellaring potential: 35–40 years.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. Ripe cherry and sweet spices shape the aroma. The palate is rich and concentrated, with cherry and forest-fruit flavours, good persistence and soft tannins. Its overall style is austere and imposing.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Pair with red meat, game and richly flavoured dishes. It also suits mature cheeses such as Parmigiano and Pecorino accompanied by jellies and dried fruit. With age, its power and austerity make it suitable as an after-dinner wine, served in a large glass with pieces of dark chocolate.
Label / history
Conceived as a benchmark expression of Amarone, Mazzano takes its name from its vineyard of origin.
