About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The 0.80 ha vineyard is located in Castiglione Falletto on cadastral sheet 7, parcel 132. It lies at 240 m elevation with a south-eastern exposure. The 53-year-old vines are planted at 4,300 vines per hectare with 2.70 × 0.90 m spacing and Guyot training on a vertical trellis. Yield is 60 q/ha.

Its soil contains more clay and limestone than Rocche di Castiglione, another site in the same municipality.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Harvest takes place during the first ten days of October. Grapes are selected rigorously by hand in the vineyard and again on a conveyor belt in the cellar. Gentle destemming and crushing are followed by fermentation and approximately 25 days of maceration.

Ageing

Thirty months in 40 hl oak casks. Bottling takes place at the end of summer, followed by one year of bottle ageing before release.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 3,800–4,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

The clay- and limestone-rich site gives a powerful, rounded wine. The concentrated bouquet offers violet, red fruit, cocoa and liquorice. Its complex tannic structure leads into a delicately sweet finish.
