About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Vanotu vineyard lies where the three Barbaresco communes of Treiso, Barbaresco and Neive meet. Planted in 1964, it has a south-facing exposure at 300–350 metres above sea level, with 4,000 vines per hectare. The soils are rich in limestone. Its location and distinctive microclimate allow the vineyard to produce grapes with character and individuality even in difficult years.
Vinification
The wine macerates on the skins in stainless-steel tanks for 15 days, combining modern technology with traditional winemaking methods.
Ageing
Ageing lasts 20–22 months in oak barrels, 80% of them new, followed by a further nine months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Elegant and refined, with highly aromatic qualities and finesse in both aroma and flavour.
Label / history
In Piedmontese dialect, Vanotu is a diminutive of Giovanni, the name of Giorgio Pelissero’s grandfather and the vineyard’s former owner. The first vintage was released in 1960. Luigi Pelissero began bottling and selling wine under his surname and the Pelissero logo during the 1960s.
