Label / history
Albinelli is an Italian name dating to medieval Emilia-Romagna and is also the name of Modena’s best-known market. Merchants have traded there since the Middle Ages, historically carrying wine, vinegar, cheese and cured meats to other regions and nearby countries by land and sea, and returning with spirits, oil and wines. Members of the extended merchant family accompanied the goods, supervised their transport and selected what would be brought back to Modena in exchange.
Rather than buying vineyards, these Emilia-Romagna merchants travelled through Italy, selected wines and brought them home for sale. Their passion for wine, knowledge of winemaking and practical approach to trade inspired Perlino’s Albinelli collection, which spans prominent Italian wine regions, grape varieties and styles.
