About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Primitivo grows in the vineyards of Manduria, in Apulia, where breezes from the Ionian Sea cool the vines. The vines stand in red soils whose colour comes from a high concentration of iron oxide.
Vinification
The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, and the whole harvest is sorted by hand. Vinification is traditional, at controlled temperature. Fermentation is stopped by rapidly lowering the temperature, which preserves the wine's natural sweetness.
Tasting profile
A juicy, semi-dry red.
Serving and pairing
Suits roasts, stewed game and dishes with meat-based sauces.
Label / history
"Badia al Colle" ("Abbey Hill") is a range from Apulia made only from the native Primitivo and Negroamaro. Legend says it was created as a tribute to the monks who kept alive the winemaking traditions and standards inherited from the ancient Greeks and Romans through the Middle Ages, when winemaking was in decline and the monks were the only guardians of its secrets.
