About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Primitivo is grown in the province of Manduria, in Puglia. The producer's Masca del Tacco estate also allowed Poggio Le Volpi to expand its vineyards in the areas of Veglie and Torricella. The warmth of the land, the influence of the sea, the local farmers' careful work on the soil and the area's distinctive climate all shape the wines of Masca del Tacco.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented without crushing. A long maceration takes place in open tanks at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine is aged for at least 24 months, of which at least 9 months are in barrels made from different types of wood.
Label / history
In 2010 Felice Mergè, guided by the experience of his father, Armando, bought and renovated a building that had once been known as the Municipal Cooperative of Erchie Producers and had operated since 1949. He renamed it Masca del Tacco and brought the winery back to life, equipping it with modern facilities and introducing production methods meant to improve quality while preserving the traditional character of the wines. The 2012 vintage won a gold medal at the Berliner Wine Trophy. The 2014 vintage received two gold medals, at Mundus Vini and the Berliner Wine Trophy.
