About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Mandrone di Lohsa comes from 9 ha of estate vineyards at Magliano in Toscana, Maremma. The vines grow at 100 m a.s.l. on south- and south-west-facing slopes. The Pseudoverrucano soils contain a very high proportion of stones, including galestro marl and sandstone. Planting density is 6,000 vines/ha. Proximity to the sea contributes to the warm, spicy Mediterranean expression.
Grapes
85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot.
Vinification
The grapes are picked manually into crates and undergo a second manual selection. Fermentation and maceration take place in truncated-conical stainless-steel vats for 20–25 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in completely new French-oak barriques and tonneaux.
Technical data
First produced in 2001. Average production is approximately 15,000 bottles. Its stated ageing potential exceeds 15 years.
Tasting profile
Powerful yet elegant, with softness balanced by a structured frame. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the core, while Petit Verdot reinforces a sunny, spicy and clearly defined Mediterranean character.
