About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the Gaiole production area of Chianti. For the 2018 vintage, the selected Sangiovese di Brolio clone came from vineyards at 400–490 m above sea level, planted between 1994 and 2005.
Grapes
The 2018 vintage included a selection of the Sangiovese di Brolio clone.
Vinification
The 2018 grapes were harvested from 25 to 28 September. Fermentation and skin maceration lasted 14–16 days at 24–27 °C.
Ageing
The wine matured for 23 months in tonneaux and French oak barriques, of which 30% were new. It was bottled on 4 and 5 March 2021.
Vintage notes
Frequent rain made the first half of the 2018 growing season challenging. The summer was dry, with above-average temperatures. Marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures in autumn allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Good groundwater reserves prevented water stress throughout the growing season.
