About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The 7 ha Colledilà cru lies at 390 m above sea level with a south-eastern exposure. Its textured loam soils, dating from the Paleocene and Eocene and belonging to the Monte Morello geological formation, are low in organic matter, well drained and able to retain water effectively. Yields are limited. Research by Baron Ricasoli into the relationship between soils and grape varieties identified Colledilà as a site where Sangiovese reaches its full potential.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand. Fermentation and skin maceration take place under controlled temperatures of 24–27 °C for 14–16 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, 30% new and 70% in their second year of use.
Tasting profile
Rich and modern in style, with an elegant, complex structure. The aroma is distinctive and intense.
Label / history
Colledilà has belonged to the Ricasoli family for generations.
