About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from a historic 0.48 ha vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, immediately above the Pira geographical mention and beside the winery. The Roagna family acquired it in 2016.
The parcel lies near the top of the historic Rocche di Castiglione hill at 300 m above sea level. It faces south, and its calcareous clay soil consists of white rock and sand.
Grapes
Nebbiolo from vines planted in the early 1970s. The planting incorporates material descended from ancient massal selections.
Vinification
The vineyard is harvested by hand into small crates at physiological maturity, assessed through the ripeness of the seeds. The grapes pass through two manual selections before vinification. Fermentation proceeds for about ten days in wooden vats with a pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts. Traditional submerged-cap maceration then lasts approximately 60–70 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately five years in neutral oak and concrete vats.
Vintage notes
The first published vintage is 2016, the year the family purchased the vineyard. The other published releases are 2017, 2018 and 2019.
