About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit came from Tommaso Canale’s parcel in the Vigna Rionda cru at Serralunga d’Alba. The parcel was rich in white limestone marl and planted with old vines.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The vineyard was harvested by hand in small crates at physiological maturity, assessed through the ripeness of the grape seeds. Two manual selections were carried out before vinification. Fermentation took place exclusively in wooden vats with a pied de cuve prepared from indigenous yeasts and lasted about 10 days. Submerged-cap maceration followed for approximately 60–70 days.

Ageing

Approximately five years in neutral oak and concrete vats.

Technical data

Average production was about 8,000 bottles per vintage.

Vintage notes

The collaboration covered the 2003 through 2006 vintages. It ended in 2010 following Tommaso Canale’s premature death.
