About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes principally from plots within a contiguous 10.40 ha estate at Località Canale in Castellina in Chianti. The property lies at an average elevation of 300 m and is generally oriented south, although the individual vineyard exposures vary. Its deep, fertile, medium-textured soils contain abundant clay and Galestro stone.
The vineyards range from newly planted parcels to blocks up to 35 years old. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare, with an average yield of 1.2 kg per vine. Both spur pruning and cane pruning are used.
Grapes
Predominantly Sangiovese, complemented by Ciliegiolo and other red varieties.
Vinification
Harvest runs from the second half of September through the first half of October. Maceration lasts 10–12 days at approximately 28°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least one year in traditional Chianti barrels, then spends a further three months in stainless steel and six months in bottle.
