About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Stielle is a historic Sangiovese-growing hill where documentary evidence of viticulture reaches back to deeds from 1153. Bright light, ventilation, elevation, favorable exposure and old local Sangiovese clones define the site. The 9 ha vineyard lies at 460–500 m and runs from west to east. Its medium-textured soils are predominantly Alberese, with abundant rock fragments and significant limestone and limestone-clay veins. Vines are 17–35 years old, planted at 5,000 vines per hectare and trained using spur and cane pruning. Average yield is 1 kg per vine.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the second half of October. Native yeasts conduct fermentation, with maceration lasting 12–20 days at approximately 24°C. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel. Broad filtration may result in natural bottle sediment without affecting the sensory character.
Ageing
The wine spends at least 18 months in tonneaux and large barrels. After assembly in large barrels, it matures there for another 4 months, followed by at least 12 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Ripe small red berries lead the aroma, supported by integrated spicy and balsamic notes from wood maturation while retaining a distinctly Sangiovese character. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with good acidity and enveloping, crunchy tannins. The finish is fresh and persistent.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16°C with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, game, roasts or mature cheeses.
