About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from Vigna Madonna Assunta La Villa in Castelletto, Monforte d’Alba (CN). The vineyard is farmed sustainably with the aim of reducing fungicide use. The vines are Guyot-trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare, with yields of 45–50 quintals per hectare (4.5–5 tonnes per hectare).
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo. This is a vintage-dated wine.
Vinification
Primary fermentation takes place in contact with the skins, permitting anthocyanin extraction.
Ageing
The wine matures for about 30 months in wood, followed by approximately 60–72 months of bottle refinement before release. Its anticipated cellaring life exceeds 30 years.
Technical data
Available formats are 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L. The technical information represents averages across multiple years and may vary with the vintage.
Tasting profile
The colour is dense and lively, with a garnet tone tending toward orange. The bouquet is fleshy and enveloping, led by mature cherry and plum. Woodland and earthy nuances follow, including dried mushroom and a restrained umami character. Petrichor evokes a forest after rain and contributes moist, fresh and mineral dimensions. Cigar box and fine tobacco appear toward the finish, accompanied by extinguished pipe, dried aromatic herbs and a subtle balsamic accent.
Full-bodied and rich on the palate, it combines imposing structure with an enveloping texture. Vibrant acidity preserves freshness within an exceptionally smooth, velvety frame. The wine is persistent, balanced and harmonious, ending at length with chocolate and cocoa. Fully evolved tannins are gentle and caressing, without bitterness or astringency, while abundant salivation adds to its drinkability. Though mature, it is capable of retaining its quality and vitality for decades.
Label / history
