About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a single vineyard at Poggio al Granchio in Montalcino, with a southeastern exposure at 1315–1475 metres above sea level (as given in the source).
Val di Suga, part of the Tenimenti Angelini group, covers 120 hectares, fifty of them planted with vines. Its vineyards lie on different sides of the Montalcino hill and have three exposures: northeast, mainly around the estate; southwest, close to Sant'Angelo in Colle; and southeast, near the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, where more recently planted vineyards predominate.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand and underwent pre-fermentation maceration at a low temperature of 5–6 °C. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 30 °C for 20 days.
Ageing
The wine was aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Deep and structured, with notes of ripe plum, earthy tones and a light touch of spice. The wine is expressive; in the 2019 vintage it is especially fresh and precise, with plenty of complexity.
Vintage notes
2019: particularly favourable weather, with a mild spring, a warm summer without major temperature swings, and light rainfall. The vines developed well and gave a crop reminiscent of the fresh vintages of the 1990s. The wines are fresh and precise, with significant ageing potential.
