About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Zuccole, in Romans d'Isonzo. The vines are 14 years old and grow in alluvial soils: a lower layer of gravel covered by reddish clay rich in iron oxide. Organic growing methods are used in the vineyards, to preserve the authentic character of the variety as far as possible.
Grapes
Three clones of Sauvignon Blanc are used. They are harvested in three stages, each with a different aim. The earliest picking keeps bright acidity and fresh herbal notes. Riper grapes are picked later for their distinct ripe tropical fruit. The final picking is meant to give a creamy texture and the variety's characteristic astringency.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of around 12 °C. Puiatti ferments all its wines exclusively in steel, cement or ceramic tanks.
Ageing
The wine spends 4 months in stainless steel tanks. It sees no oak: the company chooses not to age its wines in oak barrels.
Vintage notes
In 2020, spring and summer conditions were favourable. A few hot spells in August did not affect the good yields. Harvest began in the first days of September. The white wines of the vintage are very promising, with complex varietal character and the distinctive personality typical of warm vintages.
Label / history
Puiatti's motto is "Save a tree—drink Puiatti", reflecting the decision not to age its wines in oak. Father and son Vittorio and Giovanni Puiatti approached winemaking as a business and a passion, and also with the environment in mind. The Puiatti winery is now part of Tenimenti Angelini.
