About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Nebbiolo comes exclusively from the Rabajà MGA in the municipality of Barbaresco. The vineyard lies at approximately 235–315 m above sea level, faces south to south-west and has calcareous-clay soils. Its Guyot-trained vines average about 51 years of age, with a planting density of approximately 5,200 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks for approximately three weeks, in contact with the skins and with regular pump-overs. This period encompasses cold pre-fermentation and post-fermentation maceration using the traditional submerged-cap method. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood.
Ageing
Approximately 30 months in oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Deep garnet red. The bouquet is rich yet delicate, combining rosehip and violet with ripe cherry and sour cherry. The palate is fresh and enveloping, with ripe, soft and silky tannins that are fully integrated into the wine’s structure. The overall impression is balanced, refined and elegant, followed by a long, persistent finish.
Label / history
The 2019 vintage inaugurated this Riserva. It also marked Vietti’s return to Rabajà, a wine the estate had previously produced in the 1980s.
