About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the 0.90 ha “Villero” vineyard in the commune of Castiglione Falletto. The site lies at 360 m, with southern and south-western exposure. The vines average 35 years of age and grow in compact, moderately loamy soil containing white and bluish marl.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks for 18 days at 28–32 °C, followed by a further 12 days of maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation occurred in 30 hl oak casks.
Ageing
The wine aged for around three years in the same 30 hl oak casks. It was then filtered and bottled on 2 September 2004.
Tasting profile
The aroma is refined. The palate is complex and elegant, with balance and structure.
Label / history
The label for the 2001 vintage was created by Jerry Uelsmann, a twentieth-century American photographer and pioneer of surrealist photography.
