About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards occupy a small, limited area on the slopes of the Monte Vulture volcano, near Lavello in Basilicata, at 450–700 m above sea level. The cool climate contributes to the wine’s fruit aromas, firm tannins and good acidity.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-October. Maceration lasts approximately 30 days, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures in oak barrels for one year, followed by 10 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Refined and fruity, with chocolate and nutty notes in the background. The palate has powerful tannins and good acidity.
Label / history
Forentum was a hollow in the earth left by an ancient town near Mount Vulture and Venusia. According to the source, Horace placed it in a fertile lowland, and Pliny also mentioned it in his writings. The wine was created as a tribute to the fertility of the surrounding land.
