Vineyard and terroir

The grapes principally come from plots within a contiguous estate of about 10 hectares at Località Canale in Castellina in Chianti. The estate is mainly south-facing at approximately 300 metres above sea level. Its deep, fertile, medium-textured soils have a substantial clay component and include Galestro stone.

The listed vineyard area is 10.40 hectares. Vine age ranges from new plantings to 35 years. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare, with an average yield of 1.2 kg per vine. Both spur and cane pruning are practised.

Grapes

Predominantly Sangiovese, with Ciliegiolo and other red grapes.

Vinification

Harvest runs from the second half of September through the first half of October. Maceration lasts 10–12 days at approximately 28°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel.

Ageing

The wine matures for at least one year in traditional Chianti barrels and a further three months in steel, followed by six months in bottle.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 150,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Red with violet highlights. The nose is intense, vinous and fruit-driven, with a distinct cherry component. The palate combines freshness, complexity and structure. Lively tannins are integrated with the wine’s extract, maintaining an overall sense of balance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16°C. Pair with white meat, red meat and medium-aged cheeses.
