Storia
Founding
Case Paolin was founded in the early 1970s by Emilio Pozzobon, who bought the estate where his father and grandfather had worked as sharecroppers. Emilio left his previous career in silkworm breeding to devote himself fully to the vineyard, and passed his passion on to his three sons, Diego, Adelino and Mirco.
Second generation
20 years after the estate was bought, the three brothers, Diego, Adelino and Mirco, took over the company and began a new chapter in its development. Case Paolin first began reducing pesticide use in the 1980s, sharply cutting the amount of chemicals used to treat the vines. The estate's vineyards in Belvedere and Montello then went through decades of recovery from chemical residues left by earlier conventional farming.
Transition to organic
Mirco Pozzobon studied oenology at the university of Conegliano and led the estate's complete transition to organic winemaking. In 2012, Case Paolin received the EU's single organic certification, allowing all of its products to be labelled Organic.
Third generation
In 2013, the first member of the third generation of Pozzobon winemakers was born and named Emilio, after his grandfather.
Terroir
The estate's vineyards are located in Belvedere and Montello, where the soils went through decades of recovery from chemical residues left by earlier conventional farming after pesticide use was sharply reduced in the 1980s.
Vinificazione
Case Paolin began reducing pesticide use in the 1980s, sharply cutting the amount of chemicals used to treat the vines. The vineyards in Belvedere and Montello subsequently underwent decades of recovery from chemical residues left by earlier conventional farming. In 2012 the estate received the EU's single organic certification, allowing all of its products to be labelled Organic. Diego Pozzobon is responsible for fieldwork and the quality of the grapes.
Adelino Pozzobon oversees the processing and ageing of the wine in the cellar, drawing on traditional Italian winemaking techniques learned from his father and combining them with modern technology. Mirco Pozzobon's technical approach, developed during his oenology studies in Conegliano, drove the estate's complete transition to organic winemaking.
Filosofia
The estate describes its development as being focused on harmony with the environment, a direction driven by Mirco Pozzobon's complete transition of the winery to organic practices.
