Vineyard and terroir
The Bellavista vineyard covers 22.8 ha at 500 m above sea level and is divided into several sections planted in 1967 and 1975. Its soils are predominantly clay with gravel. The wine comes from a careful selection of fruit from this old vineyard.
Vinification
For the 2004 vintage, Malvasia Nera was harvested on 17 October and Sangiovese on 18 October. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration lasted 26 days under constant temperature control. Malolactic fermentation took place in 55 hl oak casks, followed by blending.
Ageing
The 2004 wine matured for approximately 14 months in Allier oak barrels, 40% new, and was bottled in June 2006.
