Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow on south-facing slopes in the Susegana hills, just west of San Salvatore Castle. The soils are clay over a stony base. Glera from this site develops pronounced mineral and fruit character.

Grapes

Glera is supplemented by small amounts of the native varieties Verdiso and Bianchetta Trevigiana.

Vinification

Harvest usually takes place from 1 to 10 September, following traditional rituals and using gentle techniques. The grapes are softly pressed, and the must undergoes static settling before fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks at approximately 18 °C.

The Charmat-Martinotti method is used for the secondary fermentation. The base wine ferments with sugar and selected yeasts in steel autoclaves for 4–6 months, preserving the grapes’ natural aromas and developing fruit and floral notes. The wine is then filtered and bottled.

Ageing

The wine spends three months on its fine lees in steel vats and rests in the winery cellar for a further one to two months after bottling.

Tasting profile

Well structured, mineral and focused, with pronounced fruit character and fruit and floral aromas.

Label / history

Red clay was once mined at the site to make roof tiles and bricks for the buildings of the Collalto Chamber of Accounts. Its deep colour gave a bridge made from these bricks the name “Ponte Rosso,” Italian for “Red Bridge”; the wine takes its name from this bridge.

The wine received silver medals at the 2023 International Wine Challenge and the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards. It was also recognised at the 2023 Falstaff Prosecco Trophy and the 2022 Falstaff Sparkling Special.
