Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from windy sites in a moraine landscape. The stony, moderately calcareous soils are of fluvio-glacial origin. The vines average 15 years of age and are planted at 5,000 plants per hectare.

Vinification

Harvest takes place from late August to early September. The grapes undergo four hours of cold maceration at 17–18 °C, followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation with yeast lasts 20 days in stainless-steel tanks, and partial malolactic fermentation also takes place.

Ageing

The wine rests for seven months in stainless-steel tanks and barriques. After cold stabilization and bottling, it spends a further 18–24 months on the lees.

Tasting profile

Fresh, fruity and elegant, with an easy-drinking, balanced style. Pinot Nero contributes redcurrant, blackberry, raspberry and strawberry notes, while Chardonnay brings hints of apple and tropical fruit.

Serving and pairing

A versatile accompaniment to appetizers and a wide range of dishes.

Label / history

The Contadi Castaldi venture began in 1991, when Vittorio Moretti, owner of Bellavista, set out to create a different, more complex and innovative style of wine. Its name maintains a link with tradition: “Contadi” was once used for the counties into which the Castaldi family’s lands were divided. The Castaldis were noble lords entitled by law to receive the finest produce from every crop. The rosé occupies a place between the brut and vintage rosé in the Contadi Castaldi range.
