Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from 15-year-old vines on two contrasting sites. The hills of Sottomonte contribute lightness and delicacy, while the slopes of Erbusco bring grace, elegance and warm, enveloping notes.
Grapes
The Chardonnay grapes are selected for this cuvée.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and gently pressed. After cold stabilization, fermentation takes place in steel tanks for 20 days. The wine undergoes partial malolactic fermentation, adding softness.
Ageing
The wine spends seven months in steel before bottling, followed by 30–36 months on the lees. After disgorgement, it rests for a further three to four months.
Tasting profile
Smooth and silky, with satin-like softness, complexity and a distinctive structure. The finish is elegant and persistent.
Label / history
Contadi Castaldi was established in 1991, when Vittorio Moretti, owner of Bellavista, set out to create wine in a different, more complex and innovative style. The name preserves a link with local tradition: “Contadi” was the term for the counties into which the lands of the Castaldi family were divided. The Castaldi were noble lords entitled to receive the finest produce from each crop.
