Vineyard and terroir
Cupano lies among hills beside the Ombrone River, south of Siena, on ancient Etruscan land recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The 34-hectare estate includes 3.7 hectares of vineyards at 200 metres above sea level. The vines grow in mineral-rich soils and are cultivated with low yields and organic fertilisers.
Grapes
The wine uses a Bordeaux-style blend.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and selected on a sorting table. Fermentation on the lees traditionally takes place in new French oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in French oak barriques. Further time in bottle brings greater elegance and refinement.
Label / history
Ombrone takes its name from the river running along the western boundary of the Cupano estate. Sant'Antimo is a commune in the Montalcino region, named after an abbey with a medieval church. The estate belongs to Lionel and Ornella Cousin.
