Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in vineyards in Adro, at an altitude of 250 m. The estate’s vineyards lie on clay-limestone soils at the foot of Monte Alto.
Grapes
The cuvée uses selected Chardonnay with a small proportion of Pinot Nero.
Vinification
Harvest begins in mid-August, with all grapes picked by hand without mechanical equipment. After sorting and destemming, the fruit is pressed very gently in a pneumatic press. The free-run juice is separated from that obtained by the firmer second pressing, and only must selected for its pH and acidity is retained.
Each variety ferments separately in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16–18 °C. The wines remain in those tanks through the winter and are blended in spring. Sugar and yeast are added at bottling, initiating a four-week secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Ageing
The wine spends two years on the lees after its secondary fermentation.
Label / history
Ferghettina was founded by the Gatti family in 1991, after Roberto Gatti had worked for many years at other Franciacorta wineries. He began by purchasing 4 ha in Erbusco. Roberto and his wife Andreina later expanded the estate to 120 ha across six municipalities and established a new winery in Adro. Their children Matteo, an oenology student, and Laura, an oenologist, joined them in the family business.
