Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is selected from 14 vineyards in Franciacorta. The winery’s vineyards lie on clay-limestone soils at the foot of Monte Alto.
Vinification
Harvest begins in mid-August and is carried out entirely by hand. The grapes are sorted, destemmed and pressed very gently in a pneumatic press. The first-press juice is separated from that obtained during the firmer second pressing, and only must with the best pH and acidity levels is used.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16–18 °C. The wine remains in tank until spring, when it is bottled with sugar and yeast for secondary fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures on its lees for three years.
Label / history
The Gatti family founded Ferghettina in the 1990s. After working for many years at other Franciacorta wineries, Roberto Gatti established the business in 1991 with the purchase of four hectares in Erbusco. Roberto and his wife Andreina, together with their children Matteo, an oenology student, and Laura, an oenologist, now own 120 hectares across six municipalities. The wines are made at a new winery in Adro.
