Storia

2016 – Founding

Fratini was founded in 2016, after its founders sold their previous project, Tenuta Argentiera.

Site selection and vineyard planning

The vineyard site was chosen using EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) technology, which helped identify soil with ideal characteristics. The same technology is now used to guide ongoing vineyard care.

This work is led by internationally renowned specialists with many years of experience, including Pedro Parra and Xavier Choné. Using data gathered through EMC, they selected the grape varieties best suited to the Bolgheri terroir, creating 20 combinations of different varieties and clones.

Terroir

The estate lies within the Bolgheri terroir. Its vineyard site was selected using EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) technology, which helped identify soil with ideal characteristics for the vines. The same EMC-based approach is used to guide ongoing vineyard care and was used to determine which grape varieties and clones are best suited to this terroir, producing 20 different combinations.

Ripening is monitored plot by plot so that each vineyard section can be harvested at the ideal time. Grapes are picked only during the coolest hours of the day, a practice intended to preserve the freshness and aroma of the grape juice. Vineyard care overall is guided by data gathered through EMC technology.

At the winery, grapes are sorted twice: once by hand and once on a vibrating table. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, which are filled from above using special carts; these tanks are designed to let the wine's aromas develop fully while preserving the character of both the grape varieties and the terroir. After fermentation, the juice is separated from the skins and seeds using a press. Every stage of the process is designed to express the individual character of each vineyard and each grape variety.

Filosofia

The team at Fratini holds that wine is more than simply the product of the vine—it comes from human passion and ideas. The company makes just 3 wines, each intended to reflect the experience and creativity of the people behind it.

Fratini focuses exclusively on red wines and describes itself as unlikely ever to move beyond them, stating this is not due to a lack of ambition but to a desire to concentrate on what the winery has truly mastered. For this project, wine is described as a genuine art form, and creating a masterpiece is said to require spending many years perfecting it.
