Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow in the hills of Eastern Friuli, known for Eocene-era marble and sandstone soils, also called "ponca". The text credits the volcanic soils and cool climate with the wine's bright acidity and lively minerality.

Vinification

Harvest begins in the first week of September, when the grapes have reached full ripeness. They are destemmed, crushed and pressed, and the must is cooled and left to settle. A fermentation starter, prepared 3–4 days earlier from selected grapes of the same variety, is added to the clear must. Fermentation is slow, in stainless steel tanks at 16 °C, and lasts 30–40 days.

Ageing

The wine matures in stainless steel tanks with regular bâtonnage, which gives a rounded texture and refined smoothness. It is bottled in February or March.

Tasting profile

Bright acidity and lively minerality, with a rounded texture and refined smoothness.

Vintage notes

The 2022–2023 season brought high temperatures and little rain, with no significant hail or frost. Grapes ripened earlier in the lowlands, while conditions stayed ideal in the breezy hillside areas. The 2023 vintage received 89 points out of 100 from the Italian critic Raffaele Vecchione. The wine is expected to remain at its peak through 2027.
