Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie on the sunny hillsides of Eastern Friuli, planted at up to 5,000 vines per hectare. The soils are Eocene marl and sandstone known as "ponca". Their ancient layers give the wine marked minerality and a distinctive complexity of flavour.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the last week of September, once optimally ripe, and gently pressed. The must macerates and ferments with the skins, with frequent pumping over to extract as much colour and fine tannin as possible. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are both completed.
Ageing
After fermentation the wine is moved by gravity to the winery's underground cellars, where it matures slowly until bottling.
Tasting profile
Expressive, with generous flavour and a velvety texture. Marked minerality and a distinctive complexity of flavour.
