Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from Tenuta Montenisa, around the hamlet of Calino in the heart of Franciacorta. Picking is entirely manual, with careful selection of the bunches. Small harvest crates minimize berry damage and help prevent unwanted premature fermentation.

Grapes

Blend proportions vary by vintage: Chardonnay, with a small proportion of Pinot Blanc in some vintages. Chardonnay supplies the core of this Blanc de Blancs, while Pinot Blanc can add savory and mineral nuances.

Vinification

The grapes undergo immediate gentle pressing in pneumatic presses. The first-press must is transferred to temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. Secondary fermentation subsequently takes place in bottle.

Ageing

The wine remains in bottle in prolonged contact with its lees.

Technical data

Franciacorta DOCG Blanc de Blancs; non-vintage; 12.5% alcohol by volume.

Tasting profile

Light yellow, with creamy foam and a refined, persistent perlage. The fragrant nose combines floral notes with apple and white peach. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with good balance and marked elegance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 7–9 °C. Pair with hors d’oeuvres, aperitifs and fish-based first courses; its freshness also makes it suitable for after-dinner drinking.

Label / history

Tenuta Montenisa lies in Franciacorta around Calino and belonged to the Maggi counts during the twentieth century. Count Aymo Maggi was one of the founders of the Mille Miglia automobile race; Countess Camilla Maggi was known locally for her social and charitable work.
