Vineyard and terroir

The Chardonnay comes from Tenuta Montenisa, situated around Borgo di Calino in the heart of Franciacorta. The warm 2015 season, with temperatures generally above average, contributed additional structure, complexity and ageing potential.

Grapes

100% Chardonnay, vinified to express the variety’s richness and breadth of character.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand and the bunches carefully selected. Small picking crates protect the berries and reduce the risk of premature fermentation. Whole Chardonnay bunches are gently pressed in pneumatic presses, with the free-run must from the first pressing retained. Primary alcoholic fermentation takes place at controlled temperature. The vinification description includes stainless-steel tanks and small barriques; the 2015 technical information specifies stainless steel. Secondary fermentation begins in bottle around the following spring.

Ageing

The wine remains on its lees after secondary fermentation. The principal vinification description gives a period of 60 months in bottle.

Technical data

2015 vintage. Franciacorta DOCG Satèn. Alcohol: 12% vol.

Tasting profile

Donna Cora Satèn is straw yellow with subtle golden reflections. Its creamy mousse carries a very fine, persistent perlage. Delicate floral aromas mingle with white-fleshed fruit, including white peach. The palate is full and complex yet lifted by lively freshness, with harmonious balance, finesse and elegance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 7–9 °C. It works as an aperitif with small appetizers and accompanies fish-based pasta, baked fish and white meats.

Vintage notes

Above-average temperatures marked the 2015 season, giving the wine greater structure, complexity and potential for further ageing.

Label / history

Tenuta Montenisa’s history is linked to the Mille Miglia through Conte Aymo Maggi, one of the race’s founders. His wife, Contessa Camilla Maggi, was widely known in Franciacorta for her charitable and social work.
