Vineyard and terroir

Selected Chardonnay and Pinot Noir come from Tenuta Montenisa, around the hamlet of Calino in the heart of Franciacorta. Whole bunches are harvested entirely by hand, carefully selected and transported in small crates.

Grapes

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Vinification

Whole bunches undergo gentle pressing. The wine page describes alcoholic fermentation partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in barriques. The 2011 technical sheet instead describes temperature-controlled first fermentation in stainless steel. Secondary fermentation begins in bottle during the following spring.

Ageing

The wine page specifies 40 months of secondary fermentation and lees contact in bottle. The 2011 technical sheet gives no precise duration, describing an extended period on the fine lees.

Technical data

Franciacorta DOCG Riserva; 2011 vintage; 12.5% alcohol by volume.

Tasting profile

Descriptions range from pale yellow with greenish reflections to brilliant golden yellow. The mousse is creamy and the perlage fine and persistent. The nose is intense and refined, with ripe-fruit character. White-fleshed fruit drives a harmonious, complex and persistent palate, bringing elegance and finesse.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 7–9 °C. Pair with medium-intensity first courses, white meat, fish soup and fish dishes.

Vintage notes

The 2011 growing season was marked by favorable temperature differences between warm days and cool nights. These conditions supported the expression of Franciacorta’s characteristic elegance and balance.

Label / history

The name recalls Countess Camilla Maggi, a prominent Franciacorta figure known for charitable and social initiatives. The estate belonged to the Maggi family during the twentieth century and is also linked to the Mille Miglia through Count Aymo Maggi, one of the automobile race’s founders.
