Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the Russiz Superiore estate in Capriva del Friuli, within Collio DOC. The hilly soils originated during the Eocene epoch and consist of alternating sandstone and loam rock composed of limestone and clay. The impermeable terrain encourages surface runoff, limits erosion and prevents stagnant water. Vines are trained to spurred cordon.
Grapes
100% Merlot. The variety was introduced to Friuli in 1880 and has long formed part of the region’s wine tradition.
Vinification
The grapes are picked entirely by hand and destemmed before entering tanks equipped for red-wine vinification. Alcoholic fermentation begins immediately. Contact between skins and wine averages 10–15 days, depending on the vintage and the development of extraction.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in oak barrels, where it also completes malolactic fermentation, followed by approximately six months in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol is approximately 13.5%. Available bottle formats are 0.75 L and 1.5 L.
Tasting profile
Deep red with garnet highlights. The fresh, fruit-led bouquet combines vanilla, wild-berry jam, cherries in spirit and raspberry. The palate is rich and full-bodied.
