Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from Russiz Superiore in Capriva del Friuli. Its historically distinguished red-wine plot was already identified by the Orzoni family, owners of the estate from 1558 to 1770, and appears on eighteenth-century cadastral maps begun under Maria Theresa and later completed by the Napoleonic administration.
The hilly terrain was formed during the Eocene and consists of alternating sandstone and loam rock containing limestone and clay. Because the soil is impermeable, rainfall drains across the surface, limiting erosion and avoiding standing water. The vines are trained to spurred cordon.
Grapes
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc; the proportions are not specified.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and destemmed. Must and pulp macerate in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats for a period that changes according to the vintage.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately two years in oak barrels, followed by about one year of rest in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol is approximately 13.5%. Formats are 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red with purple highlights. The intense, elegant and complex bouquet features blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by delicate spice and balsamic nuances. The palate is full-bodied and concludes with a pleasantly long finish.
Label / history
The name commemorates the noble Orzoni family, proprietors of Russiz Superiore between 1558 and 1770. They identified a particular parcel for red-wine production centuries ago, establishing the historical association preserved by this Riserva.
