Vineyard and terroir

The estate's vineyards lie at 250 m above sea level in the commune of San Floriano and at 80 m in the communes of Cormons and Farra d'Isonzo. The soils are clay and limestone with layers of sandstone. The nearby Alps and the Adriatic Sea create a distinctive microclimate that helps produce complex, well-structured wines.

Vinification

The grapes are picked by hand in mid-September. After destemming, they undergo a short cold maceration; the must is then pressed and separated from the skins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature.

Ageing

The wine rests on its lees for six months in neutral vessels, followed by a further few months in bottle.

Tasting profile

Well-balanced and structured, with inviting fruit on the nose and palate.

Label / history

The Marco Felluga estate was founded in 1950 and is based in Gradisca d'Isonzo, in the Gorizia area of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The family's winemaking began in Istria in the late nineteenth century, when Marco Felluga recognised the potential of the local land for native grape varieties. In 1920 his son Giovanni moved the business to Grado, near Collio. Marco's grandson and namesake, a graduate of the school of oenology in Conegliano, continued the tradition with a focus on quality and research.

The estate has 130 ha of vineyards, 70% planted with white varieties (Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon). Its reds are made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Refosco and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery combines tradition with modern methods and uses up-to-date equipment. Collio was one of the first Italian regions to receive DOC status, in 1964.
